V-Moda’s Crossfade LP is a solid pair of headphones that comes with a lot of extras to help you enjoy music on your iPod, PC, and other audio devices.

The Crossfade LP is stored inside an exoskeleton case. Also found inside are two Kevlar reinforced detachable cables (3.5mm audio cable and cable with inline mic/volume and control for the iPhone 3GS, iPod, iPad, and MacBook), a 6.3mm to 3.5mm adapter, and carabiner clip – all tucked into pouches with elastic bands.

Besides the one year warranty, the company also offers a Replay Replacement Program that allows a user to purchase another pair of headphones (should the headset get wrecked) for 50 per cent off.

The Crossfade LP has a different look and feel to it, which may not be everyone’s cup of tea. It has a ‘rugged V design that beats ordinary round headphones’, a ‘tank-like’ steel frame, crocodile etchings on the ear cups surrounded by mini bolts, and even a crocodile-skin embossed headband with a royal purple accent (inside).

In an alternate universe, the Panda-people plug in their iPods to speakers shaped like humans. I’m not going to tell you where the dock is though, because in this universe, we have to use our imagination. I mean, that’s probably how the Gosh iPanda iPod speaker dock was invented.

With touch sensitive volume controls on the ears, two 1.5W speakers and a support for additional stereo sources via a 3.5mm jack, the iPanda is as cute as iPod docks come. It supports iPhones too – which is always nice – and runs off either mains power or four AA batteries.

If you prefer underwater creatures to endangered Chinese bears, the iOctopus offers similar functionality, with a greater sound output thanks to a 4-inch sub in the bottom. Both speakers are available for $150, but only in this universe, not the one with Panda-people.

Like we mentioned a few weeks ago, we’re pretty excited about the potential for the iPhone morphing into all kinds of contraptions through hooking up with a little extra hardware. New Potato is one of the lead outfits in this area, and they’ve just introduced a kit that turns the iPhone into a bike super-computer. Rad.

The $99 kit contains a rather large cadence/speed sensor, ruggedized rubber iPhone mount, mounting hardware and a dongle that the iPhone uses to communicate with the sensor; combine the kit with the free LiveRider app, and presto — a cycling computer with all the standard functions (speed along with max and average, time, distance, cadence, pace) and more advanced functions like competing against a chase bike, ride map and speed graph.

Being the bike geeks we are here at the Cult, we’ve already started playing around with a test unit and we’ll have a full report up soon. Can’t wait? LiveRider is available from retailer J&R or directly from New Potato.

26th July, 2010 : Uncommon and iWorld Australia launch custom made case manufacturing in Australia and New Zealand.
To begin, choose the Uncommon case that fits your device. Our blank canvas products are obsessively designed and engineered to make your electronica look and feel its best. All of our cases are made from premium impact resistant polymers and feature twin-shot bezels that frame your artwork beautifully and protect your precious display. The power of creativity is in your hands. Make your case truly uncommon by uploading a personal image or choosing artwork from our Galleries. The Uncommon Customizer enables you to position, scale and rotate the artwork, resulting in a one-of-a-kind reflection of your personality.
Our exclusive 3D TATT™ (Thermo-Active Transdermal Technology) printing process transfers the ink deep into the case’s surface creating the only one-of-a-kind protective cases on the planet.

What does this mean for iWorld Australia’s customers:
“ This is truly a revolution in case manufacturing for the iPod, iPhone, iPad and a massive step forward for our customers in Australia and New Zealand. Basically we are able to supply cases to any customer and make it exclusive to that customer. So from a customers point of view, is they are able to carry a range of cases that will NOT be sold by anybody else in Australia or New Zealand and it will be totally exclusive range to them. And they then have the ability to keep changing and updating the range all the time with new images. The end user is going to love it and gone are the days of boring silicon and plain looking case. Now we have the ability to make custom cases with exclusive options. “ States Chad DeClase Director of iWorld Australia.

For the longest time I barely remembered to charge my iPhone at night. The iLuv App Station changed that by being a simple no-hassle speaker/charger dock that I can drop my phone into before dozing off to some mellow tune.

The Price
The iLuv App Station will set you back $US90. For that price you get the dock and the corresponding AC adaptor. You’ll of course have to purchase the optional six AA batteries separately.

The Dock
The dock is simply designed without any frills. You’ve got an on/off switch, a volume button, a snooze button – which works with the iLuv App Clock – and a 3.5mm audio input jack. The dock can be rotated to hold your iPhone in either a vertical or horizontal orientation. That’s it, but then again you don’t really need anything beyond that to charge your phone and listen to some music at a louder volume.

The App
In theory, you’re supposed to use the iLuv App Clock iPhone app with the App Station, but I’ve found that I’m happier just relying on my iPhone’s built-in Alarm, Weather and iPod apps. This is mainly because the iLuv app isn’t iOS 4 compatible and can’t run in the background. This means that if I accidentally close it to read an SMS, I’ll find myself waking up to realise that I overslept.

Nonetheless, it’s a neat app – it lets you set alarms, shows the local weather or plays music from your playlists – and seems like it could be great with a little update.

The Verdict
I’ve been using the App Station for a while without really thinking about it – not that I can think much while sleepily sliding my iPhone into the dock for a charge anyway – and that’s a good thing. It’s a great bedroom iPhone speaker/charger dock that does what it’s designed for without requiring much thought or fiddling. My only qualm with it is its $US90 price tag. If that were dropped to about $US40-$50, then I’d comfortably recommend the gadget.

Clean, simple design that suits most nightstands.

You can use the dock vertically or horizontally.

The dock is a bit pricey at $US90.

The app matching the dock is not iOS 4 compatible yet, meaning that it can’t be run in the background.
